Getting Started on Your Journey - Just A Small Town Girl Reaching for The Stars
No matter how many women become power
figures – leaders of nations, CEOs, pathbreakers… girls in small towns still
have their ambitions limited by the people around them. This is something
almost all women have in common – a difficult journey. Just a small town girl at first, each of these women have
gone on to raise the standards for young girls everywhere. Their stories carry
hope and tell girls that the world is theirs to own if only they are prepared
to fight for their dreams. Do you want to be the next woman who inspires the
girls in your town – here’s a little help.
Do One Thing Every Day That Scares You
Once you set your goal, you’ll see all the
hurdles in your path. Don’t let them scare you away. Trying to overcome all of
them together may be difficult. Instead, break them down into smaller goals and
as frightening as they seem, try to do one every day. It could be as simple as
calling someone and pitching your idea to them. The worst case scenario-
they’ll laugh at your idea. But, you would have told someone about it and
talking about it to the next person will become easier. Slowly but surely, all
the things that used to scare you will become things you’re comfortable doing.
Own Your Mistakes
The blame game is a dangerous one. Mistakes
are common to every single journey. Just
a small town girl is no reason why you should be ashamed of your mistakes
or run away from them. When things go wrong, accept the situation and the part
you played in it. If you accept your mistakes, you’re less likely to make them again
in the future. Owning your faults does not make you a smaller person. Instead,
it makes you more powerful as nobody else can accuse you of faults you fear.
Be Grateful
Don’t take things for granted. Your
resources, the people around you, your achievements are all things you should
be grateful for. When you maintain an attitude of being grateful for things,
you stay humble. This pushes you to keep working and keeps you from becoming
complacent. It also makes you approachable and helps you maintain a tight knit
circle of supporters. Even when things are difficult, be grateful for the
journey that has brought you to this point and you’ll be able to see solutions
emerge. When you do, be grateful for your vision.
